Haiti, Grand’Anse
Haiti is one of the world's most vulnerable countries to climate change and natural disasters. More than 66% of the population is engaged in agriculture, which is heavily dependent on natural resources. However, national agricultural production is low and trade is centralized in the capital, Port-au-Prince. Thus, demand is largely met by imports of foreign products. The coastal ecosystem offers great potential for local development, but it is little used and poorly managed. HEKS/EPER supports coastal communities in Grand'Anse to optimize the management of natural resources and improve their livelihoods and resilience.
Beneficiaries:
More than 6,000 people in the communities of Corail and Roseaux in Grand'Anse benefit from the project. These mainly include people who work in fishing or processing, as well as schoolchildren in the community schools with which HEKS/EPER and its partner organizations also work in other projects.
Goals:
The goal of this project is to improve the livelihoods and resilience of communities in Grand'Anse through the conservation and sustainable use of marine and coastal biodiversity.
